OUR JUNIOR CRICKET PROGRAM
The aim of the junior cricket program at Phantoms Cricket is to be inclusive and provide access for any child from the community to play and enjoy the sport of cricket in a fun and safe environment, to improve and develop skills, to be competitive, and to encourage and facilitate progression to the next stage of their cricket, either to district, representative or senior cricket.
In 2021/22 Phantoms Cricket have a number of under 10 and under 12 teams in the Western Suburbs Junior Cricket Association. We are aiming to have both under 14's and under 16's teams in the coming seasons, as well as under 12's and 16's in the SACA girls competition.
What do you get?
-
16 games per season, plus possibly finals for under 14's and up
-
New playing top
-
New playing hat
-
New training ball, to encourage training at home/in own time
-
Specialized training, including one-on-one technical advice across the season.
Training is 4.30* to 5.45 Monday and Wednesday afternoons at Camden Oval, *though from 4 pre daylight saving.
BLASTERS CRICKET
Blasters is a fantastic introduction and skills development opportunity for young cricketers. The playcricket website has the age for Junior Blaster as 5 to 7 and Master Blasters from 7 to 9, we recommend 7-8 is a good age to transition to the juniors competition.
Blasters are done side-by-side with our Juniors. For more information, please contact either our Junior Coordinator, our Blasters Coordinator, or https://play.cricket.com.au/cricket-blast/junior-blasters
OUR JUNIOR COACHING TEAM
Tony - Senior Coach
Tony joins the Phantoms this season, bringin him with him a vast knowledge and experience coaching cricket across many levels, including juniors. Some of the things Tony is keen to acheive this season, is to work with each junior coach to recognise development plans for each player across each team, but more importantly to help the junior coaches improve to be better coaches, which in turn will help the development of the juniors..
Murray - Under 12's Blue Coach
Into his third season with his son Mitchell, Murray has stepped into coaching, as well as onto the club committee. Murray played cricket in the NT prior to moving to SA, and is a keen cricket fan.
Matt - Under 12's Yellow Coach
Matt has been coach since 2018/19 and coordinator since 2019/20, and continues to help grow our juniors program across the community..
Shannon - Under 10's Blue Coach
Shannon joined the Junior Phantoms along with his son Logan in 2019/20, and has been a fantastic inclusion to the juniors program, with his focus on inclusivity as well as desire to help the kids not only improve but enjoy playing cricket.
Phil - Under 10's Black Coach
Phil and his son Arlo are new to club cricket and the Phantoms, but they have both jumped straight in, as has the whole team of mostly new but excited players.
Collective - Under 10's Yellow Coach
In a first for the Phantoms, Yellow is being coached by all of the parents collectively. More parents getting involved is fantastic to see.
Kelly - Under 10's Gold Coach
Keen to be involved in her son's sport, Kelly has added cricket coach to her resume as a soccer coach. Kelly has jumped straigh into the role, to help Josh and his mates play cricket, and is a great addition to the Phantoms.
Ben and David - Under 10's White Coach
Club legend David has partnered with a pretty handy cricketer in Ben, and although new to the Phantoms has been a great support and assett to the Phantoms Junior program from the onset.
Jordan - Blasters Coordinator
Jordie joined the Phantoms in 2018/19 and has been a fantastic inclusion to the club. Last year he took on the fun role of looking after our youngest Phantoms, the Blasters! We are very excited he is returning to the role this year.
Murray Holland - Child Safety Office
If anyone has any concerns with child safety, if a player feels uncomftable for any reason, if you have witnessed something you feel is an issue, please either raise it with Matt has the Junior Coordinator, or Murray as the Child Safety Officer. Any report will be taken seriously, and treated confidentially. See something, say something.
